This position will be responsible for our indoor and outdoor athletics facilities, Club recreation programs, competitive leagues, organized sports, fitness facilities, facility rentals, adventure and team building, sponsorship programs, coaching leadership, and budget management.
The Sports & Recreation Coordinator supports our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character and Citizenship.
S/he provides leadership and supervision to assigned program and volunteer staff.
This position will develop the quality, consistency, and program performance of athletics facilities and related programming.
Specific responsibilities include working with colleagues across the organization while developing substantive engagement opportunities that highlight the importance of support for the breadth of athletic programs, including the development of fee-for-service programs to strengthen the Club's business operations.
The BGCGC After School Program runs from 2pm to 7pm Monday through Friday.
Sports Coordinators are expected to be able to work this schedule each day BGCGC is open for programing to youth along with some weekends for sports events.
ESSENTIAL
Responsibilities:
Prepare Youth for Success Provide strategic and administrative direction for all athletics programs and activities in concert with the stated core principles of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Gulf Coast.
Establish Club program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
Ensure that members, especially pre-teens and teens, are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s).
Demonstrate leadership to ensure proper conduct, safety and development of members.
Designs, delivers, and evaluates athletic and recreational program that meets the needs and interests of the target populations and ensure their delivery in a safe and quality manner.
Program development and implementation:
Establish and maintain Clubhouse program goals and settings to ensure the health and safety of members.
Ensure that site staff understand and effectively communicate standards of program; that they ensure program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and that Club equipment is maintained in good working condition.
Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis, including tracking outcome metrics; verify that programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
Assists Executive Director with developing short-term and long-term plans that support organizational goals and ensure the growth, quality, and service delivery of the athletic & recreational programs.
Ensures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, that Club program standards are met, and safety procedures followed.
Develop and manage departmental, team, and special events budgets; oversee ordering of equipment; and ensure departmental compliance with all Club cash handling and management policies.
Collect and analyze departmental statistics and data and prepare and distribute reports as appropriate.
Work collaboratively with the Operations Director to manage facilities maintenance and implement the comprehensive renewal of the Clubs indoor and outdoor athletic facilities.
Develop high standards of healthy lifestyle programming including recreational sports, fitness, team building, and exercise.
Coordinate potential use of the athletic facilities by non-Club partners.
Supervision:
Supervise the management and maintenance of recreational athletic equipment and Club facilities.
Supervise departmental staff and volunteers including responsibility for hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, and disciplining coaches, instructors, and departmental staff to ensure maximum member safety and positive collaborative relationships with community partners.
Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal.
Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
Oversee proper record keeping and reporting, including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.
Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers.
Plan, implement, and promote Club programs including scheduling games for organized sports, ensuring a robust Club healthy lifestyles program, and developing and overseeing a range of fitness and recreational programs.
Provide game-day supervision of home contests, tournaments, and exhibitions.
Oversee proper scheduling in regard to volume, fairness, and physical limitations; oversee the travel arrangements for athletic teams.
Establish and maintain standards of conduct and practice rules for all Club athletes and coaches.
Monitor strict observances of health, safety and legal requirements for athletic program operations with a goal of risk assessment and risk reduction.
Marketing and Public Relations:
Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers, media releases and social media.
Additional
Responsibilities:
Oversee special programs and/or events and/or participate in the implementation of other Unit activities as necessary.
Consult with parents concerning member and Club issues.
Assist with administration duties associated with Club activities.
Qualifications:
Associate degree from an accredited college or university required.
A minimum of one years' work experience in a Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, educational institution, coaching at a secondary school/collegiate level, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Ability to recruit, train, supervise and motivate staff.
Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems.
Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management.
Skilled at fundraising events.
Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.
7D License, CPR & First Aid Certifications, Concussion Training.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
